Photography Speaks Where Words Cannot

An aspect of photography that attracts me is the ability to speak where words can't. There's a reason why one's mouth waters at the sight of food, why Jesus mostly taught through parables, why Disney makes fortunes convincing people that dreams can come true if we only believe: it's imagery and imagination that excites people the most. Without imagination, then language would not be what it has become. Words do a great job at forming images inside our minds, but at the end of the day the sight of something excites us.

Photography is unique, because it lets people see what they desire. Imagine walking into a McDonald's, reading the menu, but there are no pictures on the menu; it would be a boring sight to see, and I guess people would be less enthusiastic about coming to McDonald's if they can't see what their food looks like. Restaurants know that the sight of a hamburger encourages customers to order it, so that's why they hire professional food photographers to photograph their food. If one photograph attracts enough customers, that professional food photographer could be worth to a global restaurant chain as one entire restaurant.

When hiring a photographer, you're paying for more than photographs: it's the imaginative experience of seeing your images which is invaluable.  You'll have images which not only provides a sight for your eyes, but also speaks to your heart and whispers to your soul. That is the creative art and enduring power of photography!
